Since last year, various e-commerce platforms have emerged, including Shanghai Shusheng's establishment of Huashuhui, Guangzhou Baishu's launch of Find Plastic Network, Jiangsu Longdeng Chemical's self-built Longdeng e-commerce, Zhongbao Green Agricultural Group's entry into Tmall and Alibaba to open flagship stores, and the pesticide professional sales website "Nongyiwang". E-commerce is deeply penetrating the chemical industry.
According to Zhi Jianpeng, general manager of Shanghai Shusheng E-commerce Co., Ltd., the reason a large number of chemical e-commerce platforms have emerged in the past two years is that everyone has realized that e-commerce is entering its second spring of development. As a virgin land, chemical e-commerce is bound to attract a large number of fortune seekers. He pointed out that the annual output value of the chemical industry exceeds 14 trillion yuan, with countless product categories, including bulk varieties with annual trade volumes of hundreds of billions or even thousands of billions, making it an excellent base for developing industry e-commerce.
Fu An, president of the Guangdong Plastic Industry Association, stated that the current period is the best time to vigorously develop e-commerce. First, the market conditions have matured, and second, national policies are strongly promoting it. He said that the plastic processing industry requires strong material trading and logistics channels from raw materials to products, resulting in a large flow of funds. The plastic industry previously relied heavily on spot trading, which had drawbacks such as information asymmetry, price opacity, low efficiency, and high costs. E-commerce technology has diverse functions, open information, simplified processes, quick financing, low costs, and convenient applications, thus quickly integrating into the traditional plastic manufacturing industry. Plastic e-commerce is also expected to take the lead in the chemical e-commerce field.
Authoritative media in the chemical industry have also recognized the huge opportunities in e-commerce. For example, "Agricultural Materials Guide" entered the "Internet+" field relatively early. According to a person from the new media operation department of "Agricultural Materials Guide", there are currently three main models for the agricultural chemical industry to engage in "Internet+": first, moving existing channels online to strengthen the connection between manufacturers and distributors, updating product, price, and market information more timely; second, combining the internet with physical stores in various locations, binding products and services together to reach customers directly, which can streamline the original circulation process and benefit end-user farmers; third, developing secondary demand by utilizing customer resources gathered through the internet, combining existing specialty products with other products based on customer needs, and offering financial services such as credit and financing.
In the face of the flourishing scene of "like a spring breeze coming overnight, thousands of trees blooming pear flowers", some industry insiders have expressed concerns: homogenized competition and rapid development may shorten the entire industry's lifecycle, even repeating the early decline of some previous emerging industries and products. According to some industry insiders, in pursuit of short-term clicks and customer numbers, some chemical e-commerce platforms have used inappropriate methods, such as posting content that does not match the title, exaggerated and false product promotions, quoting out of context to spread false information, and having two sets of statements online and offline. This practice has already caused user and customer resentment, and if it continues, it will inevitably seriously damage the image and interests of the entire industry.
